It’s that time of year again, yep, it’s awards time! Last weekend saw the East Midlands Food Awards 2011 take place with the pride of the region’s industry all vying to be crowned the King of their field.
The event was hosted by none other than charismatic, Michelin-starred, five AA Rosette winning, celebrity chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli.
The Frenchman took to the stage to deliver a speech to calm the frantic nervous of those nominated for awards. He commented: “First and foremost I want to say well done to all of you. Whether you take home a first place award or not, the fact that your customers have voted to put you here tonight makes you all winners.”
He then went on to state: “I’m really looking forward to the food tonight – not least because I’m absolutely starving!” Knowing that such an acclaimed chef would possibly be sampling some of your food would certainly get nerves rattling once again.
Notable winners on the night were Stoke Rochford Hall who were the deserved winners of the Best Hotel category, and Marketing Manager, Ali Bailey, was quoted saying: “We are delighted to have been declared Best Hotel Restaurant. It is a great honour and a reflection of the high standard of food and service here at Stoke Rochford Hall. It is particularly gratifying that this is an award voted for by our customers, who seem to enjoy the experience of relaxed dining in elegant surroundings.”
Furthermore, Bombay Brasserie were the elated winners of the Best Indian award, and Neil Patel extended his gratitude to those involved upon receiving the award: “Our warmest thanks and appreciation to all our friends and customers who voted for us to achieve this exemplary award. We strive to achieve the highest levels of service, ambience and fine Indian dining. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone over the festive period.”
So, if you happen to be in the East Midlands at any point in the near future, and are fancying a good curry, then look no further than Bombay Brasserie.
It is great to see independent restaurants being recognised for their outstanding quality, especially amidst a time when the cost of running a restaurant, and paying for all the overheads including commercial restaurant insurance, is escalating.
Other winners were Scrummies Horncastle, who won the Best Fast Food award, Mama Liz Stamford, who won Best Venue, and Oriental Palace Boston, who won Best Chinese/Thai, amongst many other worthy victors. Well done to all those who took part in the awards ceremony, and good luck again next year!
