Performance Car Insurance Features

Breakdown Cover

Windscreen Cover

Policies may offer options for repairing or replacing windscreens and windows. Learn more about Windscreen Cover.

Hire Car Cover

EU Cover

Types of Cover

Performance vehicles fall under the same general categories of motor insurance as any other car:

  • Third Party Only (TPO)
  • Third Party, Fire & Theft (TPFT)
  • Fully Comprehensive

TPO is the legal minimum for all UK drivers, but some owners of higher-value cars look at more comprehensive cover due to potential repair and replacement costs. A specialist broker can outline performance-specific features that may be available with fully comprehensive cover.

Important Policy Additions

Depending on the provider’s terms, brokers may discuss additions such as:

Agreed Value Cover

This may be offered by some providers for performance vehicles whose real world value differs from standard market valuations.

Limited Mileage

Some performance car owners drive their vehicles infrequently. Certain policies may reflect this with mileage-based pricing. Learn more about Limited Mileage Cover.

Frequently Asked Questions About Performance Car Insurance

    • Will my car insurance cover track days or any form of competition racing?
Racing, competitions, rallies, trials, track days and 4×4 off road events are not covered under a normal car insurance policy. It may be that you can purchase a special type of insurance for such events. If you wish to seek any further insurance advice about participating in such events, then it may be worth speaking to your insurer.
    • If my car has been modified, will it be more difficult to arrange car insurance?
Share Modified cars are certainly more difficult to source car insurance quotes for. Most insurers prefer to cover vehicles by volume and are therefore not keen to manually scrutinize risks on an individual basis, this restricts the available insurer markets. Modified cars are also likely to have higher premiums as they will carry more risks.
    • I have fully comprehensive car insurance, can I drive another vehicle?
You will need to check your certificate of motor insurance in order to see whether you are eligible to drive any other vehicles with your particular insurance policy. It may be possible to adapt your insurance policy in order to allow you to drive other vehicles. This is something you must discuss with your insurer.
    • Once I’ve purchased my policy, is cover immediate?
Yes, if you pay online via a credit or debit card, or set up a direct debit, you will be covered immediately by your car insurance policy. Shortly after, you will then receive your policy documents. If you are any doubt however, then contact your insurance provider in order to find out.
