Honda Civic Type R Car INSURANCE

The Honda Civic Type R
Honda Civic Type R

The ‘R’ was introduced by Honda Motorcycles to denote performance, or ‘R’ for racing, if you should prefer .With the help and advice from racing car driver Ayrton Senna in 1992, Honda award its NSX model the ‘R’ accolade for the first time. The ethos for it was simple; the ‘R’ type car must be an exhilarating drive, similar to a race car. It should have loads of feedback, above average functionality from gear changes, braking and handling, and the ‘driving experience should not be interfered with by excessive sound-proofing that could detract from the driver’s involvement.’ So, mission accomplished with this car.

There are downsides, however. Honda engineers looked at the chassis dynamics and suspension with the view of giving it a more pleasant ride. The result of this is a ride that is so firm that a small twig under the 18inch wheels can feel like you are driving over a small log. This can become tiresome and uncomfortable after a period of time. The upside to this is the chassis amazing stability on bends and winding country roads. The whole package is so precise that to turn a corner in the Civic Type ‘R’ feels like the car is pivoting on a rear wheel.

VSA (vehicle stability assist) comes as standard across the whole Civic range, but the Type ‘R’ has a little extra and allows for a small element of fun. It can be switched of, leaving you with the ABS (anti lock brakes) and EBD (emergency Brake Assist). Alongside these safety features, there are also the duel, front and side airbags.

The Civic Type ‘R’ comes as standard or in the GT models priced at £17,600 and £18,600 respectively. Highlights include a drilled aluminum pedals and footrest, an alloy gear knob for the new 6-speed manual gearbox, leather covered adjustable for rake and reach steering wheel, Alcantara-clad sports seats with height adjustment for the driver. GT drivers are offered cruise control, duel zone climate control, auto wipers and headlights. Curtain airbags and a CAT1 alarm system. The GT also benefits from the optional DVD based Satellite Navigation system with voice recognition, Integrated Bluetooth and hands-free telephone system.

As well as being a nippy little number, and being a very desirable car with excellent safety features, it’s worth noting that You are driving a car with a VTEC system, which reportedly has never, ever failed. Safe to say, this car will stand the test of time.
