The Ford SportKA

It’s now very common to see the Ford KA on UK roads; the car was released as a nice and cheap model to the Ford range of motors. One of the main features that sell the Ford KA is its superb handling and nippy speed, but Ford always knew the chassis could do a lot more.
It was decided to build and release a new sport KA the SportKA, expanding the range with a new car would allow them to sell the car to a greater market of car buyers.
The Ford SportKA has been rebuilt in many areas to give great driving stability and increased Horse power from the engine.
The SportKA looks fantastic, with its colored bumpers and sporty wheel arches, this gives the SportKA a much better look that the lower models. You have the option to have GT stripes along the roof and bonnet but this is a required taste, this is a boy racer thing more than anything.
The wheel track is set to a wider width on the SportKA than the normal KA’s to give the car better handling round the corners and it has 16 inch alloy wheels for better grip, these take Goodyear 195/45 Eagle F1 tires which are lightweight.
The suspension on the SportKA is much lower and harder which gives you a great improvement to its handling. You will find the steering very responsive, even in the wet weather the grip is amazing, and you really get great feedback and feeling through the steering wheel.
The car comes with a 1.6 8 valve 4 cylinder engine that give you 95BHP which is very quick for a small car like the SportKA. He top speed of the motor isn’t to great and the 0 to 60 is done in just under 10 seconds but the lightweight of the car makes it feel very quick. A good aspect of the engines is the economical value it brings as you will get many miles per gallon of fuel, but this does depend on your driving style.
The gearbox is nice and stable and feels smooth and trustworthy, the top gear is great for motorway driving.
As the for the interior it looks fantastic and sporty but the steering wheel seems a bit out of place and could have been fitted with a more modern one. The dash is the common shaped one but with some improvements to its looks and feel, everything is laid out nice and neat and is easy to use. The clocks and dials have a sporty feel to them and fit in nice and well with the rest of the interior. There is a lot of head room for a small car and leg room in the back is also good for passengers.
Overall the SportKA is a fantastic supermini and you will love driving it, it’s a bit like the old mini, it’s more like a go-kart than anything.
