In 1980 Ford motor company launched the Escort MkII, there was a ghia version which is fords luxury interiors. The first production model was released in early 1975 and it was a more rounded body shape to the previous version of the Escort.

In 1978 Ford released the Escort RS2000, to achieve a bigger market the RS2000 was produced by the UK and Germany branches. Most things stayed the same on the MkII but the 950 cc engine was changed. The van and the station wagon had all the same panel work as the MK1 but a new front end and interior. The MkII have a redesigned underbody.

As the Escort had 4 different body styles Ford where able to capture a large share of the car market, they had the Escort RS2000 for the sports market and the normal models for the 2 door and 4 door markets etc. The Ghia versios for the people that wanted a bit more luxury, and the popular model for the standards and ofcourse the van for the commercial market.

In the middle of 1970 the Ford Escort was still one of the biggest sellers in the UK and across Europe. They slightly changed the front head lights and put a new steering wheel in some models. The Escort popular was given an interior face lift and a glove box. Production, after an incredibly popular model run, ended in Britain in August 1980, other countries following soon after.

The Ford Escort Mk II RS2000 was one of the most successful rally cars of the world, the car was very popular with all drivers. It took advantage of the Cortina Pinto engine which gave it great speeds, the max was 110 MPH. You could also fit the 2.0 LTR engine alone with a 5 speed gear box.
