Alfa Romeo 159

The Alfa 159 could be purchased as a front wheel drive or a 4x4 which was called Q4. The AWD system utilises a Torsen type C twin differential (front and center differential in the same unit). The Q4 four-wheel version is available with two types of engines, the 3.2 L petrol and 2.4 L diesel. The gearbox in the Alfa 159 is a six speed manual on most models but on the 1.8 it has a five speed, six-speed automatic Q-Tronic (Aisin AW TF-80SC) is available to 1.9 diesel, 2.4 diesel and to the 3.2 top model. The ultimate selespeed gearbox is for sale in some countries to 2.2 petrol engine. The are availabe four different trim levels: Progression, Distinctive, Exclusive and Turismo Internazionale (TI). Torsional rigidity of the chassis is one of the bests in this category (180.000 daNm/rad).
The 159 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in collaboration with the Alfa Centro Stile but it still shows alot of the 147 design features. The front had the normal Alfa cloverleaf V-shaped grill and bonnet. The front is also underlined with light clusters with cylindrical shape. High waistline broadens until it reaches the rear pillar.The Inside of the car has similar features than the alfa 156, instruments are turned towards the driver. The car size is much larger than its predecessor 156, it is 4660 millimetres long (225 mm more than the Alfa 156), 1828 mm wide and 1417 mm high.
There was a new Sportwagon version introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006. In 2006 there was a version released with a automatic gearbox option for 2.4 diesel, later it came to other versions aswell. In 2007 was released four wheel drive diesel model, also the 2.4 L diesel was updated to 210 PS (207 hp/154 kW) and TI trim level came as option. In 2007 Alfa Romeo will release a four wheel drive Crosswagon version and possibly a GTA variant with a Maserati 4.2 L V8 petrol engine.
